Am I a good candidate for dental implant treatment?
On the whole, most people are eligible for dental implant therapy. During an initial consultation, I will quickly be able to tell if an implant-based restoration is right for you.
Do dental implants hurt?
The actual procedure itself is very comfortable. Meticulous pre-planning means that chair time is reduced, and most implants are placed under a local anaesthetic so patients will be awake but relaxed throughout the treatment.
After treatment, patients may expect a little bruising and swelling. However, this typically disappears after a few days, and over-the-counter pain relievers should eradicate any discomfort.
Will there be restrictions on what I eat?
For the first few weeks, patients will need to avoid hard, crunchy foods in preference for nutritious, softer foods like fish, eggs, soft fruits and vegetables. However, once the implant has fused with the bone and stabilised in the jaw, all restrictions should be lifted.
How much does a dental implant cost?
The cost of dental implants varies depending on several factors, including how many teeth need replacing and the complexity of your case. However, there are several affordable payment plans available that allow you to spread the cost of treatment.
How long do dental implants take?
As an implant dentist, I tell people that treatment takes anywhere from 4 to 9 months to complete. This is because there are several steps in the process, including the time needed for the bone to fuse with the implant (osseointegration).
Typically, implant placement is carried out during one surgical visit; patients return some months later to be fitted with their permanent restoration.
